Listing a very rare , seldom for sale Marlin 1895 takedown rifle, in 45/90. After calling around I located an authority on the number of takedowns Mfg'd in the early 1895's from 1895- 1905 or there about when records were lost because of fire or what ever the reason he states the number being 468 in all calibers. They were produced up into 1915 then Marlin got into the war effort and never went back to making the 95's as hunters swung into bolt action rifles more so. I'd also found out that maybe fewer than 5,000 in the 45/90 were ever produced. The rifle cycles and shoots 45/70 cartridges nicely as well. Looks like it's deluxe wood, a fiddle back pattern.has a 26" octagon barrel with original sights. This is not one of these modern day make believe model 1895's this is serial number 137946, Mfg'd in 1896. Rifes bore is fantastic, good rifling as well. Shoots great. I've used it more than once to dispatch a Buffalo as I've raised and butchered them for our use for over 25 years. Pull that trigger, it's a done deal with this ole gal. Comes apart and locks up tight, couple nicks on the takedown latch as some one had maybe used a hammer to tap latch open. Not needed, same individual scratched his initials on left side of receiver. I believe it could be removed easy enough but it's part of her 127 year history. So here it is, if it doesn't sell so be it, I ship antique or not only to a C&R ( yours ) or a FFL, I ship USPS , their idea of a antique is front loader only.
