Excellent and scarce Remington conversion of the last U.S. flintlock musket. Lock stamped “REMINGTON’S/ILION, N.Y./1856/U.S.”. Barrel Ordnance inspector stamped at left breech “J.T.” and on the tang “1856/Y/25”. Stock side panel stamped with “V” verifying proof and partial Ordnance cartouche. Top of butt inspection stamped “F/6”. Extra nice for one of these which are often heavily used. All saw long service during the war being one of the earliest muskets to take the field. Excellent metal with nice markings. Very good stock with a small age hairline to rear of lock plate which is minor. Excellent bore and mechanical order and formerly in the collection of a serious shooter of black powder muskets. All original with the only exception being the nipple which is competition shooters modern brass replacement. Nicest one of these we have had with extra nice bore. SOLD Antique: Yes |
