SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1812 TYPE III FLINTLOCK MUSKET DATED 1816. 42” round .69 cal. smoothbore barrel with “P/EAGLE HEAD/V” Springfield proofs at left breech. Lock plate stamped “1816” and “US/EAGLE/SPRINGFIELD”. Walnut stock with Ordnance Inspector’s oval cartouche at tail of side panel. Barrel a reconversion of an original 1812 barrel that had been converted by the cone system. The lock assembly is however completely original flint and dated 1816.
