You won't find one like this easily. This is an all original configuration SAR-4800 import from Brazil of the FAL built in 5.56. There were only 700 of these imported. They were imported during the AWB, so the thumbhole stock was a standard. The faux splash hider was also part of the design changes to overcome the AWB. I am uncertain if the "muzzle device" was pressed on or threaded on? I see no indication of a blind pin welded in place. I believe the Bell & Carlson thumbhole stock is the only version these rifles were imported with in order to be available in the US.
This rifle is EXCEPTIONAL in conditon, both inside and out. It has been fired, but I am estiomating less than 200 rounds. The finish indicates a very low round count. The bolt face shows little wear and the extractor shows low round count. All indicators show low round count. The ONLY real flaw in this rifle is what appears to be small pits on the sheetmetal mag conversion block. I have greased these heavily to slow or stop progress. You will see images without the grease in place. Due to the close up nature of the images, the pitts look worse than to the naked eye.
This rifle accepts STANAG aluminum magazines (M-16) and one 30 round Center Industries mag will be included. If you live in a mag restrictive state, I can delete the magazine. A Pmag will fit, but I believe it has to be a Gen3 magazine? Some of the polymer mags have their over insertion ring on the lower portion of the body interfere with the complete insertion.
This rifle is a great candidate for upgrading with a DSA standard lower or a Pratrooper lower. Both contain all the American made parts to maintain 922 compliance. I have choosen to sell it as orignal sold. There are some collectors who prefer.
This is an excellent design execution and disappointing that DSA or Springfield Armory did not continue with some form of production. So there are 700. That is it. Made my Imbel in Brazil. You get 85% parts comommonality with the FAL in .308. The barrel, mag insert, mag release and bolt are the main components that differ. Otherwise, HTS and gas parts, along with lower receiver are interchangeable and replaceable. I did not remove firing pin to see if this item is different?
The FNC may be a little lighter, and it is a great design, but where are you going to get replacement parts? The FAL is ubiquitous. Replacing the lower can save up to 2 lbs in weight. This FN design is less than half the cost of an FNC.
