BRITISH Antique T. KETLAND & COMPANY Percussion Conversion FOWLING Piece
16 Gauge FLINTLOCK to PERCUSSION Shotgun
Here we present an antique English T. Ketland & Company Conversion Shotgun, made in Birmingham, England circa the late 1700s to early 1800s. This example would have started out life as a flintlock and converted sometime after the more reliable percussion firing system was introduced.
Ketland & Company was one of the most prominent and active British makers of the day. John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th Century. The full length stock has brass furniture including the buttplate. The musket has an iron button head ramrod.
The overall condition is good. Original patina. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. Solid stock. “KETLAND & Co.” marked lock. “LONDON” is marked atop the barrel, along with English proofs on the left flat.
