Description:
The Model of 1917 you see here was produced by Remington in November 1917 and is an early production, based on its low serial number, 21694. It has undergone a post-WW1 arsenal rebuild as evidenced by the 3GM-K cartouche on the left side of the stock. Aside from the arsenal rebuild, the rifle is unaltered and appears to be in very good condition with a tight action. The rifle includes a very nice leather sling, dated 1917.
- This Model of 1917 is in the standard 30-06 caliber holding 5+1 rounds. It can be loaded using a 5-round stripper clip.
- The metal is parkerized (original was blue and arsenal rebuild parkerized). The metal has no rust or pitting.
- The bore is sharp and shiny with no rust or pitting.
- Markings on the metal include "U.S. Model of 1917 Remington 21694" and the ordinance bomb on the receiver, the ordinance bomb and "R 11 17" on the barrel (for Remington Nov. 1917), the ordinance bomb and "R" on the bolt, "R" on the front sight, "E" (Eddystone) on the rear sight.
- The stock is in good condition with a few dents but no cracks or repairs. There is a pressed checker pattern on both sides of the stock just below the receiver, possibly from clamping when the rifle was proofed during the arsenal rebuild.
- Markings on the stock include "E" (Eddystone) on the front of the forend, a well defined "3GM-K" cartouche on the left side, and "CS" on the underside just below the trigger guard.
- The original M1907 leather sling is in great condition. It is stamped "Harvey Wheeler 1917". The leather is still supple with strong stitching. The brass hooks are strong with a nice patina. Youy can find M1907 slings advertised on GI for $100 to $500 and none of them appear to be as nice as this one. The value of the sling makes the selling price of this rifle and sling together a great buy!
