Payment Types Accepted: Money Order - Cashiers Check Description: Rare saber with BRASS Guard is marked Mole, the top of the blade also marked Mole as discribed in Albraugh's 1st book Pg 38-39. An identical to my sword was sold recently by the Horse Soldier. Cavalry saber made in Birmingham England. Knocklebow with two branches, outer branch has a brake where it meets the flat of the guard. The guard has a rich bronze colored patina, (has never been Cleaned) The original checkered leather scales that are riveted to the blade tang with five iron small rivets. Leather is worn and dry shows much wear from use. Guard is tight. Blade has patches of age with small dark spots of rust, discoloration and some pittting on the end of the blade as pictured. There are 5 nicks on the edge of the blade and appear to be sword to sword strikes. Orighinal large heavy scabbard in in excellant condition with a light gray to dark patina overall with light pitting here and there. Scabbard is stamped E S Jung 1855 near throat, the scabbard would have been matched with the sword at the arseanl and is original to sword. Also has original gold sash that has turned to a yellow. The Scabbard also has the original wood slat in it to cut down on chatter while in use. This sword has seen combat and is in untouched condition In Confederate Edged Weapons by Albaugh Drawings by Carl Pugliese on pages 38 - 39 these swords are discribed. Those supplied to Courtney and Tennant had Guards of brass and all such sabres with Brass guards whose blades are stamped Mole can be considered Confederate like all of this model thay have a leather two-piece grip riveted to the tang of the blade and stamped Mole under the guard and on the back of the blade. Scabbards of iron.These Mole swords which can definitely called Confederate are those above described. Recently a identical to my sword was sold by the Horse Soldier (3995.00) it also having the outer branch of the guard broken in the same place but was repaired at the flat. This must have been common on these swords. Possibly a fall from the horse by a Cavalry men. If you are looking for a perfect Confederate Mole Sword that you are not sure saw action this is not the sword for you. This sword is untouched has seen combat and put up since the Civil War Scabbard has small spots of gray paint on the top side of scabbard and a small spot on the guard.
