SUPERIOR MEXICAN WAR SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1840 PERCUSSION CONVERSION MUSKET DATED 1841 W/ORIG. RARE MODEL 1835/40 BAYONET. 42” smoothbore .69 cal. barrel with “V/P/EAGLE HEAD” proofs and tang dated 1841. Lock plate dated 1841 below “SPRING/FIELD”. Forward of hammer lock stamped “EAGLE/U.S.”. Excellent all original example of the last Flint U.S. Musket nearly all converted to percussion before the Mexican War with this one a prime example. In untouched condition with excellent metal with the original patinated polish and original finish on stock which also has both Flint era and Conversion era Ordnance Inspector’s cartouches in excellent condition. Great markings overall. Perfect working order and excellent bore. Original rare bayonet stamped “US” in excellent plus condition. Hard to find Model 1840.
