MEXICAN WAR SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1842 PERCUSSION MUSKET DATED 1845 W/BAYONET. Lock plated stamped on tail “SPRING/FIELD/1845” and forward of hammer “EAGLE/U.S.”. 42” smoothbore .69 cal. barrel with “V/P/EAGLE HEAD” proofs at left breech. Stock with fine Ordnance Inspector’s cartouche on side panel. Butt plate tang stamped “U.S.”. barrel tang a later original arsenal replacement dated 1852. Original ramrod. Very good to fine overall with original very fine metal patina. Stock with the original finish in nice condition. Working order. Excellent plus bayonet stamped “U.S.” at inside base of blade. Nice all original example with early Mexican War date and reasonably priced.
