Description:
SOLD   H.M. Quackenbush "safety cartridge rifle" made in Herkimer New York between 1893 and 1920.
These rifles were not serial numbered, but this one has a tracking # stamp (360) hidden under the "swinging" breech block.
Excellent nickel finish remaining, and the wood is in excellent condition. Rarely found in this shape as these were mostly sold as boys rifles.
The bore is somewhat frosted, but rifling is strong and it shoots and functions fine.
It has a take down feature, and is patented in 3 countries, US, England, and Belgium.
The Wm. Malcolm scope was probably installed by Malcolm in Syracuse NY (about 67 miles from Herkimer). over 100 years ago.
The scope is as collectable and as valuable as the rifle itself, but it would be a crime to seperate them.
It has clear optics, crosshairs, and is about 3 or 4 power, 0.618 (about 5/8) dia. and 22" long.
This combination represents a beautiful, and lost chapter in American gun making history.
$65.00 insured shipping to your C&R or FFL. USPS money order preferred. other payment options considered.

Quackenbush also invented and patented several pellet rifles, tools, and the nutcracker and pick set that comes out with the big bowl of mixed nuts for Christmas.
