Description:
This E. Remington & Sons Grade-3 10-gauge Model 1882 is in exceptional condition.  The gun appears to have seen little use in the last century.  Like many Damascus-barreled guns, it was probably retired to the gun cabinet with the introduction of nitro-powder to be admired but not fired.  The additional factor that saved the case-color and kept the wood in such high original condition is that someone had applied a heavy coat of lacquer to protected it.  When the lacquer was carefully removed, the extent of the case-color and beauty of the wood emerged.  The condition of this gun, coupled with the fact that the Model 1882 was Remington’s first shotgun with a top-lever release action, make this gun a true collectable.  Moreover, it also remains effective as an active waterfowler.

The receiver and sidelocks retain over 90% coverage of original case-color, although faded with time.  The receiver has no pitting, dents, or scratches.  The stock is made of grained English walnut.  The checking is crisp on both the stock and forend wood.  The wood-to-metal fit is exceptional.  The wood behind the locks is not only solid but without any petroleum-based oil contamination; amazing condition for 140-year old gun..   The 30-inch Damascus-steel barrels have a beautiful Crolle-pattern.  The exterior is flawless, as reconditioned.  The bores are bright and have no pitting.  The barrels have 2-7/8-inch chambers.  The right barrel is choked full (.035) and the left extra-full (.040).  The bore diameters at 9-inches from the breech are.766” and the outside diameters at the muzzle are.860”.  The wall thicknesses of the right barrel at 9-inches from the muzzle are (top/side/bottom) .048/.050/.045, and at the middle of the barrel are .056/.062/.060.  The wall thicknesses of the left barrel are .050/.045/.046 and .050/.061/.060, respectively.  The LOP is 14” to the original steel buttplate.  The DAC is 2” and the DAH is 3”.  The cast is neutral.  The right trigger pulls at 6 pounds and the left at 4-1/2 pounds.  The gun weight 8-pounds 13 ounces.  It locks up tightly.  All serial numbers, 6503, match.

The price does not include shipping cost, which is paid by buyer. The inspection period is 7 days from receipt.  This gun has been fired using RST low-pressure shells with both lead and bismuth shot.  However, as for any antique or vintage shotgun, it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by his or her gunsmith before firing and then only use shells that produce the pressure for which the gun was designed.
