Description:
***   SOLD   ***   Louis Brancquaert was an accomplished pigeon shooter the first three decades of the 20th century and he sold his high quality guns to his well-heeled friends on the very active live pigeon circuit of the day. This fine Belgian-made gun was owned by royalty as is evidenced by the inlet gold monogram and ducal crown on the forend. Built on a robust 12 gauge action with hidden Purdey 3rd fastener, side clips, and an articulated front trigger. Profusely engraved action finished in French gray with finely sculpted rebounding hammers this gun was made circa 1920. The hammers sit below line of sight when cocked. The bottom of the action is inscribed “L. Brancquaert  Brussels”. True to the demands and preferences of the sport this is an extractor gun with double triggers. Handles quickly and instinctively. Tight on face. Weighs 7lb 2oz. Presented in a canvas and leather case.   ***   The 29-1/2” nickel steel barrels are proofed for 2-3/4” shotshells. The barrels are topped by a raised matted concave rib with a gold front bead. The right barrel is bored 0.726 with a constriction of 0.025 for Improved Modified choke. The left barrel is also bored 0.726 and has a constriction of 0.039 for Full choke. Bores are shiny and bright but the bluing shows wear and scratches from normal usage.   ***   The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are made of well marbled and nicely figured European walnut. Stock dimensions are 15-1/8” including a 1-3/8” recoil pad by 1-3/8” by 1-7/8”. Cast off for the righthand shot. There are some handling marks on the buttstock typical of normal usage.   ***   Great gun for sporting, trap, vintager shoots and, of course, the live bird rings. These special guns do not come up very often.  ***   Please note that the photographs are part of the description. I am an FFL and will need a copy of your dealer’s FFL. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period which begins when it arrives at the buyer’s FFL or specified address if the gun is classified as an Antique. Returns at buyer’s expense.
