Clement factory in Springfield directly for the state of Massachusetts, this example features a 40" barrel proofed "V / P / Eagle", ordnance marked "L.F.R." and marked "1863" and "I.C" at both the breach and the left side of the full length, 3 banded stock. The lock plate is stamped "S.N. & W.T.C. / FOR / MASSACHUSETTS" along with an Eagle on the plate and nipple and "1863" rear of the cock. The steel butt plate is marked "U.S." and the number "44".
