Early 4xxx serial range Model 1892 altered to Model 1896 with receiver date stamped “1894” and “U.S./SPRINGFIELD ARMORY”. Nickel plated for ceremonial guard use in the post Spanish-American War years. Bolt deactivated. Otherwise as issued. With bayonet dated 1900 with nickel plated guard. Blued original scabbard. Nice display rifle at a modest price
