Description:
HENRI RYCHNER Martini SWISS SCHUETZEN 7x57mm Single Shot Rifle C&R Luzern

20th Century Long Range Competition Rifle

Here we present a C&R Henri Rychner Martini Swiss Schuetzen Single Shot Target Rifle, made by Rychner circa the turn of the century in Aarau, Switzerland. This rifle features a distinctive butt stock with a generous cheek piece. The trigger guard is large and is designed to be used as a pistol grip. This rifle features double set triggers that provide an extremely light and crisp break. The barrel is 33-5/8 inches long and octagonal. This is a fantastic set up for shooting long range and promises to be a lot of fun today.

Henri Rychner filed patent No. 1195 on Jun 26, 1889 for a rifle using the Martini system. It seems that Rychner was looking for military contracts when he filed the patent. This gun has a small brass plaque on the right buttstock with a name inscribed: it begins with “Lz.” “Willisau”. We believe this may be a place name and possible origin for this rifle Willisau in Luzern, Switzerland.
The bottom of the barrel is marked “R.H. Cie.” and “W.S.” with “7.57” nearest the breech.

The overall condition is good+. Original finish. The action is excellent. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The numbers match. The stock shows wear and a piecemeal extension on the back of the butt stock. There is a small bit of wobble between the stock and receiver which may be able to be tightened.
