Extremely scarce, possible one-of-a-kind, special order Winchester Model 1894 rifle in the desirable 38-55 caliber, with factory letter. Rifle has 28" part octagon barrel, full magazine (3 special options), double set trigger, plain pistol grip stock with crescent rifle butt, style "I" checkering, and letters with special sights that long since have been removed, with standard open sights in their places.
CONDITION: Barrel and mag retain 30% original blue with more in the protected areas. Receiver about the same with some bright fire blue on the loading gate. Mag tube is tight but shows some old dings in trying to keep it tight. Double set trigger and half cock safety both function properly but hammer falls to the safety position when the lever is cycled. Bore is an 8 of 10 with plenty of sharp rifling and shine, just a hint of frost forming. Checkering was freshened some time ago and finish added; butt stock has sliver repair left upper corner by tang/receiver. Fore end cap has been cleaned to bright metal. Despite some cosmetic issues, it remains a highly collectible piece due to the configuration. Antique (1896) per the Madis serial number listings, which is what the BATF goes by (letter shows 1899 manufacture and shipment).
