NEW ENGLAND Antique WILLIAMS & JENKS Flintlock
Militia Flintlock Musket Used at Bank
Here we present an antique Williams & Jenks Militia Flintlock Musket, made circa 1808 in Providence, Rhode Island. This is an example of a small arm that would have been used by local militia, made by a local contractor, and was based off of the British Brown Bess, the same British Brown Bess that was used against the colonists and then the Americans in the Revolutionary War and War of 1812. It features a barrel fastened by pins instead of barrel bands. The lock is large and of the style preferred for military applications. The top of the barrel is marked “WILLIAMS & JENKS”. Brass butt plate, trigger guard, ramrod tubes, and band under the front sight. It comes with an old typewritten tag that states “This was used by guards at The Providence Bank 50 South Main Street, in the late 1700s or early 1800s when money was being transported.”
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces were finished bright with some light brown oxidation throughout. The markings are clear. The stock has an old repaired chip on the toe. The bore is smooth and dusty. The action is excellent, strong and crisp. Here is an early American flintlock musket!
