Description:
This an example of a 1911A1 .45 acp Pistol manufactured in 1945 that was probably sold as surplus after the war. The purchaser then did a custom job on the pistol, trigger, action, sights, custom refinish, etc. and no doubt used the gun in competition. The 40's, 50's, and 60's were the hayday of the .45 auto competitions around the country - civilians, police, and the military had their own and frequently joined together. Many of them did what this owner did to customize their .45 auto's and this is a prime example. I believe it is all original from that era except the sights were modified probably sometime in the 1970's forward as evidenced by the 3 dot system used (not common in the 50's or 60's).
