The Colt New Police is a double-action, six-shot revolver that can be fired in single or double action. The gun was chambered in the .32 New Police, which is dimensionally identical to a flat-nose version of the .32 S&W Long, except for the nose shape. In addition to the .32 New Police cartridge, the revolver was available in 32 Colt. The diameters of the two cartridges are not the same, with the 32 Colt being approximately 0.020 inches smaller in diameter than the New Police. The later .32 New Police chambering was more popular than the 32 Colt chambering. Colt made 49,000 of these New Police models. The New Police was famous as the first standardized double action revolver the New York City police bought, by order of then Police Commissioner Teddy Roosevelt. The New Police Revolver was replaced in the Colt catalog in 1907 by the improved Colt Police Positive. This little revolver would have been in service during the earlier days of organized crime and most likely still in service during the infamous Roaring Twenties. The overall condition is fine. Original blue and fire blue accents. The action is excellent in double and single action. The bore is shiny bright with great rifling. The grips are solid and show little in the way of wear. The numbers on the frame and crane match. A super little revolver from Cincinnati! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 4 inches.
