Description:
This shotgun is in good overall condition, fully functional and all matching. Bore are clean with a hint of peppering. As you are pobably aware, there are plenty of Wells Fargo fakes on the market, stamped in the 1970s and 1980s, mostly on cheap Belgian guns to enhance their value. Unfortunately there are no Wells Fargo records that could authenticate firearms issued to their agents. Even a Colt factory letter wouldnt help authenticate a gun like this because Colt didnt ship guns to Wells Fargo directly. Instead, they were purchased by individual agents from harware stores and other retailers and all individually marked by local engravers. The only way to authenticate a Wells Fargo gun 100% is through a verifyable provenance. This particular gun doesnt have any provenance but if you google " Wells Fargo Colt 1878 shotgun" you will find 4-5 listings of the Wells Fargo Colt 1878 shotguns in exact same configuration sold in the last 2 years. All of them sold in 5k to 12k range. Whats even more intersting is that all of them were in the same serial range- 12xxx to 18xxx. This particular gun is in the 18xxx serial range. Another clue to the authenticity of this specimen is the consistency of wear on the Wells Fargo stamp and overall wear of the gun, as well as matching overall patina inside the lettering.
