Description:
This is a fine example of Colt US Army 1911 in all regards. This gun is marked with serial number 17XXX, making it a part of the first year of production in 1912. The purchase includes the Colt Letter, authenticating that the gun was shipped with 500 others to the commanding officer at Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois on January 2, 1913. Therefore, the gun was part of the first 20,000 produced in 1912 by Colt Firearms. The "WGP" Walter G. Penfield, Major inspector proof mark found on S/N 1-101,500 can be seen above the trigger guard on the left side (as shown in photos). The slide features the rampant Colt in a circle on the left rear end. The UNITED STATES PROPERTY stamp is seen on the left side of the frame. The "H" Provisional Acceptance mark can be seen on the slide (shown in photos) and barrel. The Serial number is shown as No 17539 on the right side of the frame. The gun is complete with all original furniture including: fixed front sights, adjustable rear dovetail sights, the diamond checkered grip panels and mainspring housing with attached lanyard loop. The pistol retains 85% of the original finish. Photos do not do this gun justice and truly would make an honorable addition to any militaria collection.
