This presented example is a Model 1898 \"Sporterized\" Springfield Armory Krag .30-40 Krag, Bolt-Action Rifle.
The .30-40 Krag Rifle was a firearm originally designed in Europe and adopted by the United States Military in the 1890’s. Springfield Armory was awarded a contract to produce the US version, with approximately 500,000 units manufactured.
The .30-40 Krag earned a reputation as having one of the smoothest bolt-actions of any military rifle.
The model shown here has the insignia of “U.S. Model 1898. Springfield Armory.” on the receiver with the recognizable hinged magazine on the opposite side. The magazine had the distinction of holding its .30-40 Krag Cartridges in a horizontal row underneath the bolt.
