Description:
General Specs: Lefever, Year 1936, 20 Gauge, 6lb 8oz, Chokes SK/SK, LOP 14 1/8", DAH 2 1/4", DAC 1 7/16"
Serial Number: 300782
The Ithaca Gun Co. produced the “Lefever Nitro” using the well-known name of Uncle Dan Lefever to call attention to their affordable but well-made double shotguns.  They utilized this marketing to produce a group of Lefever guns with nicer fit and finish and a variety of configurations which they labeled the “Lefever A Grade”, with nicer wood, checkering, some line engraving, and they looked nearly identical to their more costly Ithaca NID era guns.  Ithaca produced 6 different configurations in the A Grade, from a field style to a single barrel trap, to the very low production Model 6 Skeet gun.  This is one of these Model 6 “Special Skeet Guns” with single trigger, beavertail forend, ejectors, double beads, and the skeet chokes of the day, serial number 300782, made in 1936, the first year of production.  The Model 6 was discontinued in 1939 with a very small number made, likely less than 1000 guns in all gauges.  This Lefever A Grade Skeet in 20 gauge is one of about 300 or so ever built and remains in exceptional, factory original condition with 99% factory blue, 50% factory case color, 98% factory trigger guard blue, and most all the original factory wood finish.  Many of the clay target guns shipped with a factory butt pad, and this gun wears a vintage Hawkins pad of the day.  Shipped with 26” barrels choked Skeet and Skeet (and so marked by the factory), still having great bores, tight ribs, and clear stampings and rib matting, the gun is set up for competitive skeet, vintage events or modern.  Weighing a nice 6 1/2lbs. and balanced perfectly on the hinge pin, the gun is lively but not overly so.  What a magical grouse, woodcock, or quail gun she would make for its new owner!  The barrels are tight on the hinge pin and breech face with the top lever well right of center, screws are all excellent, wood-to-metal fit is superb, and the mechanics are all in perfect working order.  You can see the specifications below.  This is a very attractive gun with all the options, nice modern stock dimensions, and a true investment quality vintage American double gun that will not break the bank.  Considering the fully optioned nature of the gun, the Lefever A Grade Skeet is a true bargain.  Thanks for looking!
