Description: General Specs: Browning Superposed, Year 1972, Gauge, 5lb 12oz, Chokes IC/ M, LOP 14 3/8", DAH 2 1/8", DAC 1 7/16" Serial Number: 2796V72 The Browning Superposed is one of the finest over/under shotguns in history and one of John Browning’s most notable designs. Produced in plain jane field grades to the most elaborately engraved and finely stocked shotguns ever seen, production of the Browning Superposed was done in Belgium, running strong from 1931 through 1976 when production stopped. In 1969 Browning introduced the Superposed "SUPERLIGHT" in the 20ga. and finally was born a true upland bird gun. A typical Browning Lightning model weighs about 6 1/2lbs. in 20ga. At 5lbs. 12oz. and balanced dead on the hinge pin, this 20-bore Superlight is 3/4lb. lighter than a typical Lightning Model and is the lightest Superlight 20ga. we have ever seen! This is a dynamic upland bird gun, with its straight hand stock, rounded frame, and schnabel forend that can be carried all day without fatigue. This gun, sn2796 V72, is one of only 973 total 20ga. Superlight guns made between 1969 and 1984 (746 built between 1969 and 1977, discontinued 1977-1983, 227 more made in 1983 and 1984, then discontinued again). The wood on this Superlight has some of the nicest figure I have ever seen on a Grade 1, as they are usually quite plain. The wood is European walnut with contrasting grain running front to back…really great wood. Browning guys are known to love the more figured wood and the gun is worth more because of it. Highly desired by upland hunters that are in the know, these guns usually are only found in used condition showing wear on the bottom of the receiver and the usual nicks and dings from use. Guns built between 1969 and 1971 were prone to having “saltwood”, so the more desirable guns start at 1972 when saltwood not no longer an issue. Many of the Superlight guns weigh north of 6lbs. sometimes to 6 1/4lb.s, so finding one at 5 3/4lbs. and having killer wood is even more rare. There are few Over/Under 20ga. shotguns that weigh under 6lbs. The Belgium Superposed 20ga. guns have been going up in value in the last year or two, so they are a great investment quality gun that will be worth more in the future as you care for it and enjoy its use. Specifications can be seen below, and the photos tell the rest of the story. The only wear is on the bottom edge of the frame from carry wear. The wood and metal are 98% plus condition.
