Description:
 SOLD.
This Winchester Model 1897 Slide Action Shotgun, manufactured in 1897 (first year of prooduction) in New Haven, Connecticut. The Model 1897 was a superior slide-action exposed hammer shotgun specifically designed for the new smokeless powder. Winchester manufactured just shy of one million Model 1897 shotguns, between July 1897 and September 1957. The Winchester Model 1897 became the most popular exposed-hammer, slide-action shotgun in history.
The 20” barrel Riot and Trench Gun version of the 1897 is especially desirable for Military and Law enforcement use.
Made in 1897, the overall condition of the gun is fine with the original finish and patina. The action is excellent. The bore is bright and smooth. The walnut stock shows signs of honest and careful use. Shoots 2 3/4" shells. I have fired this gun and it functions smoothly and is very solid. Modern 2 3/4" ammo works great, however do not use steel shot!
