"Deluxe Colt Lightning Medium Frame Slide Action .38-40 caliber rifle. Overall length is approximately 42½". The 26" octagon barrel, marked .38 caliber, has an excellent bore. The barrel and magazine tube have approximately 95% blue. The frame has approximately 85% blue with wear on the tangs and receiver top. The wood is very good with checkering on the wrist, and forearm also has a blank round German silver inlay on the bottom of the butt, no cracks or chips. In addition, the butt stock rear right just forward of the butt plate has the Mother of Pearl triangular inlays with a Masonic compass and ruler below. The triangle inlays are repeated on the left. The action functions correctly. There are provisions for sling swivels on the magazine band (threaded hole and butt stock (open hole). The barrel has 1883, 1885, 1886, and 1887 patent dates. This is a very nice .38-40 Lightning rifle with Masonic Association. It would be great companion piece to a .38-40 revolver, or in a Colt collection.
