The cast steel barrel is a pleasing plum brown and a light pewter patina shows a nice mottled original finish with some sparse smatterings of light oxidation and perhaps a few very light pinprick pits. The top of the barrel is appropriately maker marked atop the breech with wavy “Sunburst" style marking on the left diagonal flat with dual inlaid silver bands. The tang and the lockplate are lightly engraved and are mottled case-hardened pewter patina with “A. Wurfflein/Phila" lockplate marking; the hammer has turned to a soft brown. The German silver furniture features a very nicely engraved trigger guard bow and pineapple trigger plate extension, the balance is smooth and unadorned consisting of: oval barrel wedge, escutcheons, flash plate beneath bolster, triangle tip inlay, teardrop butt inlay, flowing side plate and shield-shaped monogram plate atop the wrist. The side plate has Wurfflein’s signature second screw installed at its rear. The stock rates very good plus to excellent with much original varnish. The expected light handling marks from the years but with crisp checkering and edges, and extremely minor flaking or abrasion in the area just to the right of the trigger. The overall length is 4⅞". The lock is crisp and mechanically functional. A very fine example of these quality-made Philadelphia pocket pistol. SOLD |
