This is a stone mint example of a scarce National Match M1 Garand rifle, made in 1955-1956 and sold in 1957 by DCM. Just a few thousand of these Type 1 rifles were made by Springfield arsenal in the late 1950s, using select barrels which were marked NM on the left side for National match. Majority of these were later modified into a Type 2 configuration by glass bedding the stock and adding other National match components. Very few of unmodified Type 1 rifles remain and this one is a spectacular, near new, example. The metal looks mint and is absolutely original. The stock is nearly new as well with a couple of tiny handling marks here and there. Sharp DOD cartouche is present on the left side with a sharp circled P stamped in front of the pistol grip. Even a cleaning kit is present in the stock. Barrel is dated 1955. The accompanying CMP letter confirms shipment as a National match rifle in 1957, with a copy of the original DCM paperwork attached.
Beautiful original maker marked and dated sling is included as well.
This is a spectacular mint example of a scarce Type 1 NM rifle that would be impossible to upgrade. It does not appear that it was ever shot.
3-day inspection.
