Description:
US Winchester Hotchkiss Model 1879 Saddle Ring Carbine (Cavalry Carbine), dated to approximately 1880-81. This rifle features the famous and unique Hotchkiss-designed bolt action mechanism, fed from a 5 round magazine tube within the butt stock. The Carbine model has an attractive half-stock and a 24" barrel. This particular rifle has a functional action mechanism and a superb bore, with some finish wear, but much of the original blue finish remaining. The magazine spring seems to be a bit weak, and the follower tends to stick in the tube. The rear sight has been removed, as well as the safety mechanism and saddle ring component, and a trigger guard screw. The stock looks to have been cracked at the wrist and repaired, as shown. Otherwise, this is a rather nice example of a rare US military rifle, and it wouldn't take much to restore this beauty! Antique, No FFL required. Shipping $60.00
