Potent Personal Defense Sidearm
Here we present an antique French Flintlock Double Barrel Pistol, made circa the late-18th Century in Mezieres, France. Mezieres is a town on the other side of the river Meuse from Charleville, where one of France’s primary armories once located.
This pistol is fairly large and has twin .55 caliber smooth bores. Each has its own lock and trigger. In a day when most firearms were only single shot, having another bore stoked and ready to fire could be the difference between life and death. Very similar to the idea of the British Howdah pistol and could have been acquired and used by either civilian or military officer.
The overall condition is good. Strong action. Both bores are in good shape for their age. The stock/grip contains less than expected wear with a bit of chipping around the locks near the barrels.
