EXTREMELY RARE SHARPS 1851 28" ROUND BARREL "BOXLOCK" SPORTING RIFLE, .44 CALIBER, #19XX. Only 193 Model 1851 Sporting Rifles were made between 1852 - 1855. Of these, only 64 were made with round barrels, and of these 64 only 30 were made in .44 caliber! So, this is one of 30 made in this caliber with round barrel. Additionally, the barrel lengths for these was 18" to 34" with 27" the most common. This one has a 28" barrel. The brass patchbox and barrel serial numbers match the receiver serial number. Fine lightly aged full blue on the barrel, mostly gray/brown receiver. Fine Sharps markings including on the cover to the Maynard tape primer portion of the receiver. Has the correct "Robbins & Lawrence" barrel marking. Fine+ stock and forearm with metal forearm tip. Fine+ bore and mech. Tang and globe sights along with the "squirrel ear" rear barrel sight. A really rare Sharps in nice condition.
