According to the previous owner, this shotgun was ordered on November 22, 1851 and completed on July 22, 1852 as a double barrel percussion shotgun for A.R. George, Esq. This was getting late in the percussion period and this fine shotgun could have been consigned to the wall over the fireplace or a closet, but the owner rather had the gun converted to a breechloading pinfire shotgun with a rotary underlever. It includes London black powder proof marks. A very neat and unique piece from one of London’s Best! William Boss, Thomas’ father, began an apprenticeship in 1773 at age 15 under renowned gunmaker Thomas Ketland in Birmingham. William then worked for Joseph Manton in London and stayed with Manton for a number of years. During this period he had three sons, who apprenticed with him in turn. William passed away during the apprenticeship of his youngest son, Thomas. Joseph Manton took up the mantle and allowed Thomas to continue his apprenticeship. Boss & Company continues today in private ownership since it was founded in 1812 and is London’s oldest active gunmaking company. The overall condition is very good. Dark patina throughout. Good Damascene pattern. The actions are excellent. The bores are bright and smooth. The stock is nicely figured and solid. A very nice piece! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels: 30 inches. Gauge: 12 Bore Pinfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
