The stock is very good with three well-done repairs on the right side forward of the lock. The barrel ha a low raised rib starting forward of the front sight and ending in a decorative finial 8" forward of the breech. About 1½" to the rear is another finial with a raised rib that terminates at the breech plug. The trigger guard has decorative floral treatments at each end. The butt plate tang has a 3½" decorative extension and there an escutcheon on the top of the wrist which incorporates a fanciful crowned face. The cleaning ramrod is present. The flintlock action functions correctly with the exception that half cock can be released by pulling the trigger. The barrel is fastened to the full-length stock with pins. The side plate is ornate with a female figure as part of it. The stock has decorative carving around the breech tang. This is a very nice flintlock French Fowler. It would fit any European sporting rifle collection, especially if you’re into early flintlocks. SOLD Antique: Yes |
