Description: This late WWII right-hand semi-auto rifle is a Winchester U.S. Carbine M1 chambered in .30 Carbine. This carbine has the distinctive late production features which include: (1) Type III barrel band with bayonet lug, (2) Type III stamped adjustable rear sight with "Shield H" mark, (3) flat bolt, (4) low-wood stock with oval sling cut-out, (5) four-rivet hand guard, (6) late Winchester butt plate with 4 dot top row and 2 full dot bottom row, (7) Type V Low-wood, Oval-cut M2 Pot Belly stock, (8) Type V, underscore "M" marked, magazine catch with additional lug added to secure 30 rd magazines, and (9) a late production khaki Type C weave patternsling with the flat sling adjustment piece marked circle "W" and "USA". The snap fastener is marked "Klikit {star} PULL." The top of the barrel is stamped with a "W" behind the front sight. The top of the receiver chamber is roll-stamped: "U.S. CARBINE/CAL. .30 M1" in two lines and the receiver heel is roll-stamped "WINCHESTER 5746770" in two lines. The trigger housing has a faint "x" stamped forward of the trigger. The 15-round magazine is marked "IA" on the spine. The Type III bayonet lug, barrel band, adjustable rear sight, 30-round magazine catch and other components were introduced late and even after WWII and were fitted on relatively few Winchester carbines. Original, late WWII production, Winchester M1 carbines with these features are quite scarce and very desirable. The metal is in generally good condition, however there are numerous small localized rust spots in several places. The wood stock appears to have been reconditioned.
