Description:
“Made in America or not at all.” That’s Henry Repeating Arms Co.’s slogan. The Henry Big Boy is available in .45 Colt, .44 Magnum, .41 Magnum, .357 Magnum, and .327 Federal Magnum. All of the calibers are SASS approved so any Cowboy Action shooters can use any Big Boy in competition. This 100% American made rifle is chambered for the powerful .44 Magnum round. It should be mentioned that the Big Boy in 44 Magnum can also safely fire the .44 S&W Special and the .44 S&W Russian. This is because both of those cartridges are the .44 Magnum’s predecessors, both being slightly shorter in length but having the same rim diameter. The .44 S&W Russian is the original cartridge and was introduced in 1870 as a black powder cartridge. It marked the first use of internally lubricated bullets in modern firearms ammunition. Previously, the nose or front end of a bullet was actually the same diameter as the case. For this reason, revolver cylinders at that time did not have shoulders for the case to rest up against. The .44 S&W Russian essentially brought about this feature in revolver design. The switch in bullet types is also why older .44 cartridges used bullets of .440” diameter and modern ones are actually .429” diameter. Eventually, the .44 Russian was lengthened to create the .44 Special in 1907. The same was done with the .44 Special to create the .44 Magnum in 1954. The Big Boy in .44 would make an excellent partner for any .44 Magnum Revolver such as the Smith & Wesson Model 29, Dan Wesson Models 44 and 744, the Ruger Super Blackhawk, Redhawk, and Super Redhawk, and the Colt Anaconda. This was an important consideration back in the days of the Old West. A person who had a rifle and a pistol in the same caliber only had to carry one type of round, thus saving weight. The Big Boy’s stock is made of American walnut and is the classical straight-grip type. The octagonal barrel is 20” long. Total length of the rifle is 38”. Magazine capacity is a generous 10 rounds. As this is the side gate model, users have the choice of loading the rifle via the tube or the conventional side gate. The latter would allow for quicker loading. The receiver is drilled and tapped for Henry’s BB-RSM scope mount. This rifle is new in the box and ready to go.
