This is a very nice, Webley-made rifle that has retained 32-95% of the original blue that has silvered at the muzzle, along the high and projecting edges, as well as having small spots of thin brown freckling mixing with the blue in a few places. The rifle is marked with "LEE-SPEED / PATENTS" on the receiver ring, "P. WEBLEY & SON BIRMINGHAM" engraved on the top of the barrel, and the matching numbered bolt ("9749") is fitted with a safety. The rifle is further equipped with both a magazine cut-off, and complete set of volley sights. The English walnut buttstock, forend, and handguard have an attractive straight-grained appearance, with small handling marks and minor surface blemishes scattered about the original oil finish. The handguard has short, with-the-grain cracks on the front and rear, and the "(Broad Arrow) / WD" marked nosecap has a later-applied fire blue finish added. The original, chain-fastened magazine is still attached. This example of a rare Metford rifled, commercial Long Lee, is in fine-near excellent overall condition, and would make a splendid addition to any collection.
