This gun, no. 16048, was built 1897-98 with 29” chopper lump barrels. Rebarreled by the maker with 2-3/4” chambers with a London proof in 1999. Stocked in highly figured French walnut. Disc set strikers, auto safety, double triggers, and auto ejectors. Weighs 6lb 10oz. *** The 29” nitro steel barrels are chambered for 2-3/4” shotshells and are topped by a raised concave gamestyle rib. The rib is inscribed “J. Purdey & Sons, Audley House, South Audley Street, London.” The bores are shiny and bright. The bluing shows thinning in several spots and some minor scratches from normal usage. The right barrel is bored 0.728 with a constriction of 0.005 for Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.029. The left barrel is also bored 0.728 and has a constriction of 0.0013 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.025. Perfect choking for upland game and clays. *** The Prince of Wales grip stock and splinter forearm are made of highly figured French walnut and the forearm has an Anson release. Checkering is in good condition as is the overall finish. There are, of course, a few minor handling marks from normal usage. Stock dimensions are 14-5/8” including an extremely thin horn buttplate by 1-1/2” by 1-3/4”. *** Under snap actions Purdeys are easy to use and with the self-opening Beesley action makes this a gun that can very quickly be reloaded when the action is fast. Superbly balanced and quick handling this is a great gun for clays and game. *** Please note that the photographs are part of the description. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws.
