Here we present a C&R Winchester Model 92 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine chambered in .38-40 WCF, made in 1920 in New Haven, Connecticut. Another fantastic design from the mind of John Moses Browning, the 1892 was made to replace the venerable and iconic 1873 and featured its pistol caliber chamberings. The result was a trim and light rifle that was an immediate hit and stayed in production for almost 50 years. Many gun owners favored Winchester rifles for their ability to fire the same ammunition as their pistols, meaning that a cowboy, trapper or stagecoach defender could take along his trust rifle and pistol sidearm with only one supply of ammo!
In April 1919, Winchester eliminated the “18” and “19” from the model names of all of the various models that were in active production. So, prior to this date, the Model 92 would have become the Model 1892.
The Model 1892 remains popular today, as do many Winchester models, as it has been used in more than five hundred movies, TV Shows, and Video games.
The overall condition is fine. Original finish has been preserved. Saddle ring removed. Wonderful, crisp action. Bright and nicely rifled bore. Very good, solid stock.
