Description:
This is a mid-20th century scarlet serge tunic having the insignia and buttons for the King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment (1680-1959). The black stand collar is edged with heavy white piping as well as an embroidered bullion tape woven in a floral pattern and has tarnished silver regimental insignia: a male lion passant guardant. The shoulders have heavy gold cord straps with three embroidered rank pips apiece and intact embroidered bullion chevrons and galloons are present at the cuffs. The fabric retains good and vibrant original colors, although there is some tarnishing of the embroidered wire in spots, and there are a few small spots of damage and tearing on the center seam piping about halfway down. The regimental buttons are complete and have some mild tarnish but are otherwise still fairly bright and the interior white silk lining is lightly soiled but still intact. The King's Own Royal Regiment had an illustrious history and received its first battle honors in 1695 at Namur during the Nine Years' War with the last awarded for World War II (France, NW Europe, Iraq, Syria, N Africa, Italy, Malta, and Burma). In 1959 it was amalgamated with the Border Regiment to form the King's Own Border Regiment and continues the lineage in today's British Army as the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment. This is a great example of a British officer's tunic and is in very good-near fine condition.
