Description: This gun is a Mauser ("byf" code) P.08 Luger, 42 Date "Black Widow". The maker of the gun was Mauser Werke, Oberndorf. It has flat checkered toggle knobs, with the toggle being marked with byf. The Germans used codes for different manufacturers and the byf was their mark for Mauser. The barrel is 4" long and chambered for 9mm Parabellum. The firearm frame is late short type with stock lug, wide trigger and narrow trigger guard. It is marked with "P.08" on the left side, near the thumb safety The receiver is also late, short type. The chamber is marked as a 2-digit year date of 42 (Made in 1942). The thumb safety is serrated, marked "GESICHERT", safe in lower position. It has a dorsal fin front blade and fixed V notch rear sight. the extractor is ate type, marked "GELADEN" on left side. The grips are molded checkered black blastic, which is where the "Black Widow" name comes from. The magazine appears to be original to this model, being marked P.08 and "fxo". The finish on the firearm also appears to be the original salt blue finish, including the small parts. The receiver has 3 distinct markings. There are 2 inspection/acceptance marks that are the same, as well as a late Nazi Military proof. The serial number is 4412 and all parts have matching last two digits "12" stamped. here were approximately 23,000 of this model Luger made and the serial number ranged from 500-5600.
