This is a very rare example of a Kynoch Gun Factory large frame Schlund Patent, double trigger revolver. The metal retains 50-60% of the original blue finish, mostly within the cylinder flutes and protected areas of both the frame and barrel assembly, with the balance having faded to a mellow, plum-brown color. The checkered walnut grip is intact with scattered minor handling marks and surface blemishes, and mild flattening of the points as well. The lock-up is tight and the action is fully functional. These rare revolvers were the brainchild of Henry Schlund who received patents covering a "hinged-frame, self-extracting, concealed-hammer revolver, with double-trigger lock-mechanism in which the hammer was cocked by pressure on a lower trigger…and released by pressure upon an upper trigger" (excerpt from "The Revolver 1889-1914" by A.W.F. Taylerson, 1971; pp. 280 & 281) The guns were manufactured by the Kynoch Gun Factory in Aston between 1887 and 1890, with about 600 or so examples produced in .450 and .380 calibers. These revolvers are very seldom encountered, and this example rates fine condition overall. Antique SOLD Manufacturer: Schlund Model: Revolver Caliber Info: .476 Gauge Info: .476 |
