Description:
This gun was designed as a simplified version of their earlier Starr Model 1858 Double Action Revolvers. In addition to the action change, it has a 2-inch longer barrel than the earlier Starr pistols. The production of the M1863 started at about serial number 23,000.  This gun with serial number 30431, was probably made in early to mid-1864 as Starr would produce about 32,000 of these guns between the end of 1863 and the end of 1865.

This gun has been reblued but the markings are crisp.  The right side of the gun is marked STARR’S PATENT JAN 15 1856 and the left side is marked STARR ARMS Co NEW.YORK. There are a variety of US government sub-inspector marks crisply stamped on the frame and barrel.  There are no inspector cartouches on the grip.  The gun remains in excellent mechanical condition and times, indexes, and locks up perfectly. The loading lever and catch work as they should, and the gun breaks down easily for the removal of the cylinder.   A nice addition to a Civil War pistol collection.
