Description:
***   SOLD   ***   A solid and nice handling sidelock from the great provincial gunmaker of Yorkshire. Lightly engraved but with graceful lines and fluted fences this handsome 9-pin back action sidelock is ready for more time afield. The stock is beautifully figured but just needs some attention to return it to its former glory. Auto ejectors, automatic safety, and double triggers. Horsley no. 3703 was manufactured circa 1902 - 03. Comfortable to shoot at game or clays at 7lb 2oz.   ***   The 28” nitro steel barrels are nicely sleeved and tig welded to the original chambers with no visible seam line. Chambered and reproofed in Birmingham for 2-3/4” shotshells. Topped by a solid, raised concave tapered gamestyle rib. The rib is engraved “Thomas Horsley & Son Makers York”. The bores are shiny and the bluing is in very good condition. The right barrel is bored 0.721 with a constriction of 0.010 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.033. The left barrel is bored 0.720 and has a constriction of 0.025. Minimum wall thickness is 0.036.   ***   The straighthand stock and splinter forearm are made of very well figured English walnut. A little work by the new owner will really bring that wood figure out. The checkering is worn and there are handling marks and small dents that can easily be removed. Stock dimensions are 14-3/4” to a checkered butt by 1-3/8” by 2”. Cast off for the righthand shot.   ***   This unadorned gun is nonetheless a great performer in the field. Mechanically sound but needs some work to the cosmetics. Great upland gun for the serious grouse, woodcock, or quail hunter. Nice gun at the range as well. A lot of gun - Not a lot of money!   ***   Please note that the photographs are part of the description. I am an FFL and will need a copy of your dealer’s FFL license. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period which begins when it arrives at the buyer’s FFL or specified address if the gun is classified as an Antique. Returns at buyer’s expense.
