Description:
1) VERY FINE CONDITION EARLY 1873 2ND. MODEL OCTAGON RIFLE, .44-40, #39XXX, MADE 1879. A most attractive early 1873 that still shows fine blue on the receiver sides that is evenly mixing with plum/brown- about half good blue on the right side and 1/3 good blue on the left side. Retains the original dust cover with fine blue in all the protected areas (like on each side of the hammer) on the top and bottom of the receiver. Uncleaned, mellow brass lifter. Very fine screw heads, nice blue on the loading gate, tight action, strong springs, solid safety half-cock, correct Second Model dust cover rail screwed to the receiver. Fine deep barrel blue showing some age dulling and edges mixing plum. Uncleaned aged blue to plum/brown mag tube. Fine+ stock and forearm showing only normal light handling with very tight wood to metal fit. Fine+ bore shows only some light pitting toward the center of the barrel. Exc. markings. Original buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and Lyman blade/bead front sight. Sharp 144 year old '73!
