Caliber: 30-06 Springfield Action Type: Bolt Action Rifle fed by Internal Magazine Barrel Length: Approximately 26 Inches Sights / Optics: The front sight is a bladed post set between two protective ears. The rear sight is also set between 2 protective ears. It is an aperture when down. When flipped up it becomes a sight ladder that uses a sliding aperture.  Stock Configuration & Condition: The hardwood stock features a nose cap with bayonet lug (no bayonet included), a stacking loop, a barrel band with sling loop, a wooden handguard, a finger-grooved forend, a through bolt, a straight grip, a straight comb, a sling loop at the belly and a metal buttplate with a hinged door for storage. The wood shows light nicks, scratches, compressions and some minor handling and storage marks.There are no cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock is in Very Good overall condition. Type of Finish: Parkerized Finish Originality: Original Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is deep. . In our opinion and for the age, this bore rates an 8 out of 10. The bore shows an M.E. of 0.5. Many military and C&R-eligible weapons have bores that will show erosion. This is not only due to age but to the fact that corrosive primers were commonly used in ammunition worldwide. For example, the U.S. used corrosive ammunition throughout WWII. The U.S. military did not begin to phase out corrosive-primed ammunition until the 1950s. Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal refinish. The balance of the finish shows some scattered nicks and scratches. There are a couple of spots of minor discoloration due to oxidation over time. The screw heads are well-defined. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good condition.  Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements. Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None. Our Assessment: As it entered World War I, the UK had an urgent need for rifles. Contracts for the new rifle were placed with arms companies in the United States. They decided to ask these companies to produce the new rifle design in the old .303 caliber for convenience of supply. The new rifle was termed the "Pattern 14". Winchester, Remington and Eddystone Arsenal (a subsidiary of Remington) were selected to build the rifles. When the U.S. entered the war, it had a similar need for rifles. Rather than re-tool the Pattern 14 factories to produce the standard U.S. rifle, the M1903 Springfield, it was realized that it would be much quicker to adapt the British design for the U.S. .30-06 cartridge. Remington Arms altered the design for .30-06. The new rifle was formally adopted as the U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, Model of 1917. This Eddystone Model 1917 was made during WWI. This 1917 has deep Eddystone markings on the receiver and barrel as well as small Eddystone “E” stamps on the bolt handle and other parts. It looks very impressive for a military rifle that is over 100 years old and will make for a great addition to most any collection. Please see our photos and good luck in your !
