It was developed as a modernization of the earlier Enfield rifles and was designed to be more accurate and easier to produce than its predecessors. The No4 MkI was used extensively by British and Commonwealth forces during World War II, and saw service in Korea and other conflicts in the post-war period. The rifle was highly regarded for its reliability and accuracy, and was considered to be one of the best bolt-action rifles of its time. Today, the Enfield No 4 Mk I is a popular collector's item and is still used for hunting and target shooting in some countries. This example was built in 1942 by the Royal Ordnance Factory, Fazakerley in Liverpool. It appears to be an all-matching gun. The bore is bright and free from defects. No pitting is present.
