Description:
WORLD WAR II Era Soviet IZHEVSK Model 91/30 Mosin-Nagant SNIPER Rifle C&R

Soviet Russia SNIPER RIFLE w/ PU SCOPE

Here we present a C&R Soviet Model 1891/30 Mosin-Nagant Rifle, made in 1944 at the Izhevsk Arsenal with a production run between 1891 and 1973. This rifle is a 1930 variant of the original Model 1891. The Soviet Model 1891 known in the West as the Mosin–Nagant and in Russia as Mosin's rifle is a five-shot, bolt action, internal magazine fed military rifle developed from 1882 to 1891 and used by the armed forces of the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and various other nations.

This model was commonly used as a sniper rifle in World War II. Early sniper versions had a 3.87×30 PE or PEM scope, a Soviet-made copy of a Zeiss design, while later rifles used smaller, simpler, and easier-to-produce 3.5×21 PU scopes. Because the scope was mounted above the chamber, the bolt handle was replaced with a longer handled, bent version on sniper rifles (known to Mosin collectors and shooters as a "bent bolt") so the shooter could work the bolt without the scope interfering with it. Like the U.S. M1903A4 Springfield sniper rifle, the location of the scope above the receiver prevents the use of stripper clips.

This rifle was one of the most mass-produced military bolt-action rifles in history with over 37 million units having been made since its inception in 1891, and, in spite of its age, it has been used in various conflicts around the world up to the present day.

This specimen is dated “1944” and marked with the Soviet hammer and sickle, along with numerous inspection marks. It is chambered in the 7.62x54R cartridge.

The overall condition is very good. Excellent action. Bright bore with sharp rifling. This example sports a solid stock with less than average wear. Numbers were matched by electro-pencil at the time of armory refinish. Sharp markings. “GSI” import marked. The scope has a clear sight picture and features nice leather lens covers.
