Description:
World War II FABRIQUE NATIONALE Semi-Auto .25 Automatic C&R “BABY” Pocket Pistol

Early Production Made by FN in Herstal, Belgium

Here we present a C&R Fabrique Nationale .25 Automatic “Baby” Pocket Pistol, made circa 1959 in Herstal, Belgium. The 1931 Fabrique Nationale Baby Browning is a small blowback-operated semi-automatic pistol designed by Belgium-born Dieudonné Saive chambered in .25 ACP (6.35mm). The pistol features a six-round magazine capacity and is a striker-fired, single action, blow back mechanism. The manual thumb operated safety locks the slide in the closed position when engaged using side thumb pressure.

This gun was used by the Belgian Resistance in 1943 in the Attack on the Twentieth Convoy. On 19 April 1943, members of the Belgian Resistance stopped a Holocaust train and freed a number of Jews who were being transported to the Auschwitz concentration camp from Mechelen transit camp in Belgium, on the twentieth convoy from the camp. In the aftermath of the attack, a number of others were able to jump from the train too. In all, 233 people managed to escape, 118 ultimately survived. The remainder were either killed during the escape or were recaptured soon afterwards. The attack was unusual as an attempt by the resistance to free Jewish deportees and marks the only mass breakout by deportees on a Holocaust train. The gun is now on display in the Kazerne Dossin Museum in Mechelen.
