Description:
SOLD ** HOLLAND & HOLLAND, RARE Square Bridge Mauser MAGNUM ACTION, 375H&H
Engraved MODELE DE LUXE 98% Condition

HOLLAND & HOLLAND Best Quality MODELE DE LUXE, built on original Obendorf, single square bridge, magnum Mauser action
.375 H&H MAG. Rifle, in 1955 with action serial number 34594, engraved tang number 3465.

For collectors, this is the quintessential premium bolt action Mauser-type rifle.  If you had only one bolt action rifle in your collection to represent the best bolt action rifle in the world – where cost is no factor, this is it! In this one example, there is a lot going on. Not only is it a .375, not only is it a Modele De Luxe but also it is built on a RARE single square bridge Magnum Mauser action.  It is a best example of Holland & Holland’s .375 bolt rifle.

For safari hunters, with this rifle in hand, every PH (Professional Hunter) will be drooling. They may say there are other great guns out there, but no one can challenge that this one isn’t at the top of most bucket lists.

Holland & Holland didn’t miss a trick when building this rifle. The action is a Mauser Oberndorf 98 square bridge MAGNUM action with special Holland & Holland bolt handle.  25” round tapered barrel with barrel-band rear express sight with one standing leaf and two folding leaves (marked 100 and 200) mounted on island sight block; a banded stippled front ramp with dovetailed silver bead with Holland & Holland fold-over hood; and banded front sling swivel. The steel bottom metal consists of a hinged straddle floorplate w/ trigger guard release and is engraved “MODELE DE LUXE” in a stylized banner. The trigger guard hinge is inscribed, “MADE IN ENGLAND.” The bolt knob is checkered with two panels with borders that nearly meet.

The single square bridge magnum receiver is fully engraved with deluxe Acanthus scrolls including the floor plate and trigger guard.  The engraving is by London master engraver Harry Kell, known for his brilliant work for Purdey and Holland & Holland and a mentor of Ken Hunt.  On top of the barrel between the front receiver ring and the rear sight assembly, the barrel is inscribed, “HOLLAND’S .375 MAGNUM.”  On the muzzle side of the front sight, the inscription reads, “HOLLAND & HOLLAND, 13 BRUTON STREET, LONDON.”

With fancy contrasting black streaks, the extra deluxe English walnut stock is marbled with rich color and is artfully shaped with a Monte Carlo comb that is a great design, blending into its perfectly shaped beaded cheekpiece. The hand-checkering is classic point-pattern and features a genuine horn forend tip. The stock finish is Holland’s hand-polished French oil, complete with a rich brown leather-covered recoil pad. LOP is 14 ¼”. Drop at comb is 2 1/16”, drop at heel is 2 ¾”.

With the stock removed, the serial number is stamped in the barrel channel. The underside of the chamber is stamped 18025 HYK and the receiver flat is stamped 10092 S, with this number repeated on the left side of the front ring.

Other stock accoutrements include a horn-covered recoil crossbolt, a case-hardened steel trapdoor pistol grip cap (containing a spare front sight), rear sling swivel stud, and an inlaid gold monogram oval, vacant, awaiting owner’s initials.

Metal is finished with the highest quality rust-blued finish. The action is fitted with an adjustable single-stage trigger, an original Mauser flag safety (has “SAFE” inlaid in gold), and a second FN Mauser-type two-stage safety on right side of action tang. The bolt knob is checkered and the bolt handle shaped to clear scope.

Weight is 9 lb, 3 oz without scope.

The barrel is inscribed “HOLLAND & HOLLAND, 13 BRUTON STREET, LONDON”. The rifle comes with two scopes: the first is a new Austrian-made Swarovski 3-10x42 variable and the second is an excellent-plus German-made Nickel Supra 2 ½ x 20 fixed scope.  The rings of both scopes fit the Holland & Holland proprietary quick detachable bases. Rings are inscribed “Holland & Holland” and numbered to the rifle. 3465.  The H&H rings are removable on the Swarovski scope and sweated on the Nickel scope. Both sets of rings engraved and rust blued to match the rifle. H&H’s installation here, is their typical proprietary system of screwing the front scope base through the side wall and dovetailing the rear base through the square bridge.

The magazine holds 4 rounds; the rifle has been regulated for the 300 grain bullet. As with all Holland & Holland rifles, it is extremely accurate and remains ready to take into Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Namibia or South Africa.

Accuracy: With off-the-shelf Winchester Super-X 300 grain full metal case, this rifle shoots under 1 MOA.  With handloads of 81.0 grains of IMR 4350 behind 300 Grain Nosler Partition bullets, you can expect a ragged hole at 200 yards if you do your part. Magnum actions, while heavier, are known for their improved accuracy.

Condition: Comes with its leather luggage case with original H&H label, compartmentalized for the rifle and both scopes. Condition would grade 99% as this rifle has seen little use, with mint bore.

After talking with David Cruz at New York office of H&H, here’s the way the pricing stacks up if a buyer buys a bespoke H&H Mauser today.

For the base price of a Best Quality 375 H&H Magazine rifle>>>>>>>>>   31,500 GBP
            For deluxe wood, add ………………………………………….…….1,750
            For H&H scope rings…………………………………………..……..6,000
            For scope………………………………………………………….…..1,900
For Deluxe Model (100% engraving), add…………………………...7,000
                                                                                                            _______
                                                                                                                51,050 GBP

Convert that to US dollars (using $1.30)  = ………………………………………$ 66,365.00

Holland & Holland verified the above figures to me. However, there would be an additional premium for the Magnum Mauser action that Mr. Cruz could not assess.

Priced here at $37,450, this rifle is a rare find for someone. Shipping is $100 to any of the lower 48 states.
