Here we present an antique London Proofed Ketland & Company Flintlock Trade Pistol, made circa the 1830s to 1840s in London, England. Ketland & Company was one of the most prominent and active British makers of the day. John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th Century.
This pistol is full-sized and for martial purposes. The lock plate on this pistol is marked "Ketland/& Co" ahead of the hammer. The barrel is marked with pre-1813 London proofs.
The overall condition is very good. Nice patina throughout. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and patinated. The stock has some minor, short splits throughout due to age and use and remains solid overall.
